I LOVE Midtown Scholar!! It's a unique building, smells like old books should, has free wifi, and just the right amount of scholarly activity. The coffee, teas, pastries and yogurts are great too!



Book-wise, it has a great selection, a large section of books on local histories and issues, very obscure books, and a ton of young adult books and children's books by local authors. This place is definitely a browser paradise.



My only criticism is that the sections can be a little difficult to navigate or challenging to find a specific book.

I purchased a book from Midtown Scholar Bookstore, owned by Eric Papenfuse and Catherine Papenfuse, that was described as "Crisp, clean and unread hardcover with light shelfwear to the dust jacket- VERY NICE!" The book showed up with a remainder mark to one edge, that wasn't mentioned anywhere in the item description. I asked to send the book back for a refund but was denied, although their own website states their refund policy as "A buyer is eligible to receive a full refund, including shipping, if a book is not in the condition described." They don't honor their own policies. Based on this poor experience, I will not be purchasing any books from Midtown Scholar Bookstore ever again.
