Tri-County Electric, headquartered in Lafayette, Tennessee, is one of the largest cooperatives in Kentucky or Tennessee. Our history begins approximately a year after President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1935 creation of the Rural Electric Administration (REA) to bring electricity to rural America. Wasting little time, Will Hall Sullivan, the founder of Tri-County Electric, and the original Board of Directors: William Parker, C.A. Hammond, Dr. J.Y. Freedman and Lee Hanes organized Tri-County Electric in 1936 to serve rural areas in Macon, Trousdale, and Sumner counties.
