Provided by YP.comA good friend of mine was a patient at Whittier Pavilion. One day he had to be restrained. He was slammed to the floor and a mental health counselor put his neck in a head lock until the point in which he couldn't breath. He was sedated and had carmed down. My friend was able to walk , yet he was dragged down the hall like a bag of trash. Upon being sent to the quiet room he was slammed on to the table and the straps on his hands and ankles were so tight that they cut off the circulation. He was left like that for two hours. Later on that day he left me a message telling me about the way he was treated. He was petrified and in a state of shock. Upon visiting him that afternoon a nurse came up to me and told me that "they had to put him down", like he was a wild animal. My friend is severely mentally ill. He did need to be restrained. I get it. Not brutalized. Being thrown to the floor caused him to have on going back pain, which he still suffers from today. One of his wrists had a fracture that was caused by this incident. After this incident he put a 3 day in notice because he was very scared about being there. I visited my friend often. I saw staff members verbally abusing patients. Some of them obviously are in the wrong profession. I can only wonder how many other patients have been mistreated there. My friend was going to file a complaint. He told me it would've been too painful for him to relive the whole experience in doing so. It sickens me that the mental health counselor got away with abusing my friend. My friend went there for help. When he left his condition was worse then when he was admitted. Upon leaving the hospital he was very fearful of it. I would never recommend this facility to anyone.
