Dr. Schengund is responsible for the death of my beloved dog. When my dog was experiencing some distress on a Sunday afternoon, I called Kevin at the emergency number at Hershey Veterinary Hosp. My dog (5 y/o German Shepherd) was a patient of Kevin's and he was familiar with him. I explained his symptoms, what he had been doing and what he had eaten (it was a classic case of tortion but I had never even heard of this!). Kevin told me to just keep an eye on him, he probably had indigestion and call in the morning. After a long tortuous night, my dog was unresponsive and breathing heavily and eyes rolled back into his head. At 5:30 a.m. I called Kevin's office and they told be to bring him right over. When we put him in the car he was dead. I was completely devastated. I adored this dog and when I found out he could have had surgery the night before which would have saved his life I was furious!! Kevin checked my dead dog and said it was tortion. I could not understand why Kevin had not told me to bring him when he could have been saved. He had no answer for me. I have never seen such a horrible disregard for an animal. I heard later from two friends who had the same experience with their dogs dying under his care (for tortion), one of them while being boarded at the hospital. Since that time I take my pets to a different vet whom I trust completely. He also had a negative opinion of Dr. Kevin Schengund based on several stories he heard from former patients.

My best advice: never trust your loved pets with Dr. Kevin Schengund and tell others to stay away!

When I moved to Hershey, I asked everyone who they took their dog to. More people said Kevin than any other. My complaint would be the price. He charges more than others. I know some who have left because of that. His vet skills are super. He has diagnosed diseases in friends's dogs and has always been spot on with my dog. Skills through the roof, personality is sometimes difficult because he tells you exactly what is going on, price is high.

I do not recommend taking your pet here AT ALL! I have taken my dog here for the past 5+ years -- never again! I have spent many thousands of dollars here for my pets and this past weekend was the last straw. I wish I had gone to another vet long before now and given my pets better care at more reasonable prices. The vet here takes your animal in the back room for all procedures while you wait in a separate room. All kinds of tests are performed and medicines given without any discussion of costs up front. Instead you are given a bill that sends you into shock at the front desk. I had a 14 year old cat that had many health problems. The vet ran tests and gave fluids and medication when the cat really should have been euthanized. Instead he gave me a bill for $648 for blood work, xrays, etc. and my cat had to suffer for another 24 hours. By the next morning, she couldn't even lift her head -- barely move at all, had blood coming out her rear, couldn't eat or drink and could barely even meow or open her eyes. On top of all that, he wanted to charge me another $350+ to euthanize her! I found another local vet that was able to help us for half the price. Don't go here unless you enjoy paying exorbitant prices. When I first adopted my dog he was having allergies and this vet sold me a bag of the expensive dog food he sells at his clinic. I ended up buying the Blue Buffalo food at PetSmart which has much better ingredients and helped with my dog's allergies. I was also charged $5 for two small cans of cat food that I wasn't even asked if I wanted for my cat. She never ate a bite of it. I will never step foot in that place again or allow him near my animals!
