The New York State Bridge Authority, also known as NYSBA, works to maintain and operate vehicle crossings at the Hudson River. Founded in 1933, it focuses on the economic and social benefits of the residents of the state of New York. The authority is funded by bridge tolls and reinvests toll revenues to continue its operations. The New York State Bridge Authority operates the Bear Mountain, Newburgh-Beacon, Mid-Hudson, Kingston-Rhinecliff and Rip Van Winkle bridges. It administers inspection, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation programs to insure the structural integrity of its facilities. In addition, the New York State Bridge Authority operates a help line that provides 24-hour suicide prevention counseling services.
