Hillsboro Artists' Repertory Theatre ( HART ) and Hillsboro Actors Training was started in 1994 by Kim L. and John H. Sandstrom as a private company. It quickly established itself in the community of Hillsboro, Oregon. For the next three years, Kim ran the theatre and the acting schools, and built a solid audience and a great deal of support for her organization. In December 1996 Kim decided that the needs of the theatre were too much for one person to manage, and she sold the business to "Friends of HART, Inc Subsequently, the name changed to Hillsboro Artists' Regional Theatre ( HART ). Friends of HART, a non-profit community organization formed in 1997 to operate the theatre, is dedicated to enriching the greater Hillsboro community by providing quality live performing arts at a reasonable price. Overseen by a dedicated board of directors consisting of various community members and arts supporters, Friends of HART has grown HART into a respected live community performance theatre that produces a regular season of creative, clever, and entertaining plays in its newly created 99-seat theatre. Our office staff, directors and our acting class teachers receive a small stipend for their efforts, but other participants ( actors, stagehands, box office, etc. ), are unpaid volunteers. A.
