I had a really bad drinking problem and I would just walk around half drunk painting addresses on the curb, well one day I had to use the bathroom and went there. I felt the helpless and hopeless and I needed to go, I walked in and used the bathroom and was treated very kind and I did receive prayer I believe.. The memory is foggy but I do remember that I was treated with love.. Is that not what Christ preached above all else have love... I have never returned actually I am here writing this because I am looking to see what time the rummage sale begins.. OH by the way 3 yrs sober aug 15th....

My husband and I attended recently and have returned. It's a wonderful place to worship. Everyone is friendly and it's evident that they are driven by the Word of God. The pastor emphasized the importance of following Christ closely. Yes! this is exactly why we need to be in church, spiritual health and encouragement. I felt that my faith was rejuvenated. Thank you First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo. We'll be back! :)

I thought it fishy that two reviews here mention the word museum until I attended. The church building is amazing. A wood carving of the "Last Supper" sits in the entry area. Marble and shined slate fill the building. Lighted stained glass encasements line the walls. It is really a museum! And yes, the service matched the building. A lack of spirit and excitement dominated the morning.

Attended morning worship here a while ago. Tension filled experience. Angry people interrupted worship. Scary spiritual warfare. Pastor has bad aura around him and wife too. Pray for them. They need it.

Very different experience. Not bad. Just different. There is a museum quality to this church. It has been a long time since I've seen a violin or a flute used for worship. Some songs were more current but these were done in an old church style. I can see why the elderly (of which there were many) like this. I reminded my kids that it takes all kinds!

First Baptist Church is committed to a museum-like approach to worship. Look but don't touch! Participation is frowned upon. Our worship forms have been evolving for centuries but some churches won't move forward. We risk impoverishing our worship when we abandon new forms and ideas in favor of comfort and tradition. There may be some that enjoy the old hymns and old way of doing things and those are the few there. Commitment to Word and Sacrament, biblical texts, and congregational song do not have to be traditional.

Facility is gorgeous. Marble everywhere. Slate floors. Woodwork to die for! Services leave much to be desired: stilted, dry and old fashioned (congregation is elderly). They try to be current with the Pastress singing current pop songs and even though her voice is beautiful, it does not fit with pop styles. Pastor has meandering style of preaching. Never sure where (or when) he is going to end. Few youth or children to speak of so not great for our family.

For those strong advocates of contemporary music who consider it to be the panacea for today's worship, consider the contrast of this church! First Baptist eschews all attempts to be contemporary and instead focuses on the traditional. Traditional chancel choir in robes, communion in a formal setting, large pipe organ as the main source of music, lack of flashy videos and an older (if not elder) congregation. It is refreshing to attend a church where elevating God is above all things. The lack of babies crying and teenagers playing with their latest communication gadgets is a plus. I will be back.
