Provided by YP.comI hope by writing this review it can help other dogs. When my dog's heart murmur was first detected, I specifically asked the Dr. if I should take my dog to a Cardiologist. Instead, the Dr. said, "Let's see how the medication does first" and my dog was prescribed Pimobendan on March 14, 2020 for her heart murmur. The Dr. noted in my dog's records I declined a Cardiologist consult when she prescribed Pimobendan for my dog. My dog's records prove what the Dr. noted in the records is untrue. It was later on that I found out from the Cardiologist that Pimobendan is not used to treat heart murmurs. The Cardiologist wrote a letter stating that my dog never should have been on Pimobendan for her heart murmur and explained what this medication is used for. This is the letter from the Cardiologist, “We actually do not use Pimobendan to treat heart murmurs. We use Pimobendan to help decrease heart enlargement or help to strengthen the heart. Therefore, we don’t just use the murmur as an indication to start the Pimobendan, but we actually look at the radiographs or echocardiogram to see if there is any evidence of heart enlargement or the heart becoming weak.” Also, my dog was misdiagnosed and prescribed Gabapentin for seizures on Sept. 8, 2020 and she wasn't having seizures, but syncopal episodes. If your small dog coughs, falls over and recovers quickly from this it could be syncopal episodes as seizures would last much longer. My dog had her Pimobendan dosage increased on Nov. 18, 2020 and Gabapentin dosage increased on Oct. 20, 2020 when there was no need to be on these medications. My dog was never referred to a Cardiologist even with the increase in medications. On April 14, 2021, when a change in my dog's heart murmur sound was detected, I made the decision to take her to a Cardiologist. I described to the Cardiologist exactly what I described to the Dr. (cough, fell over, only lasted a few seconds and fine right after) and the Cardiologist knew right away these were not seizures, but syncopal episodes. My dog was also taking CannaPet and the Cardiologist felt that the CannaPet was exacerbating her fainting spells. The Cardiologist recommended discontinuing CannaPet, Pimobendan and Gabapentin. As soon as CannaPet was discontinued, my dog no longer had fainting spells. Sadly, my dog passed away at the age of 14.5. She lived her last 5 months free of unnecessary medications and fainting spells. If my dog had been referred to a Cardiologist when her heart murmur was first detected, she never would have endured everything that happened to her.

Provided by YP.comWe took Mushy, our 11 year old rescued golden retriever, who had a sebaceous gland that became infected and the previous owner had taken her to Bayshore Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Wilcox saw her immediately and it was a great experience and the price was very reasonable. It was a great experience and a very knowledgeable doctor! Thank you Dr. Wilcox, you are the best animal Doctor that I have found in the area! I agree with a previous post that Dr. Wilcox and her staff are EXCELLENT!
