It survives on donations which enable Paul & Karen to provide a quarterly newsletter to over a thousand readers around the world. It is spiritually based but not limited to one sect or denomination. Most of the newsletter is written by the readers who share their insights, experiences and problems. Although there is strong sense of communal support within the readership, Raven's Bread is not an organization which one can join. Paul and Karen serve the hermit community also through their website and books they have written which include "Where God Begins to Be, a Woman's Journey into Solitude" and "Consider the Ravens, On Contemporary Hermit Life".

Raven's Bread Ministries is dedicated to serving the needs of hermits and solitaries throughout the world. Since the 1950's, people in the West have discovered their need to live a life of dedication in silence, solitude and simplicity. Seeking the solace of God to counteract the fragmentation of modern life, individuals began to withdraw from the "madding crowd." Some called themselves hermits; others simply followed the attraction of the Spirit luring them into a lifestyle which heals their hearts and nourishes their spirits. Raven's Bread newsletter is a quarterly publication that seeks to affirm and support this way of life. It offers opportunity to share questions and post information, as well as be inspired through reflections on the eremitical life. R. B. Ministries provides a lending library, opportunities for spiritual guidance, space for individual retreats, plus books andResources about topics hard to find elsewhere. Though not a community per se, Raven's Bread offers the option of connection without joining, of companionship without intrusion, of guidance without judgment.
