After reinstalling some 12” JBL speakers Allen Speaker Repair reconed for me, I noticed they sounded different than the other matching speaker stack. On closer examination I found he had put a 15” dust cap on the speaker instead of a 12”. As I continued to analyze the system I could really see the difference in frequency response, as any knowledgeable sound engineer would. When I called him out on it, he said it wouldn’t affect the sound but would replace the dust cap with the proper one but the glue residue would be visible on the cone. Well hell, who would want that? If he was any kind of businessman he should have offered to recone that speaker since it was his fault for making such a stupid decision in the first place. I have a phone and he has my phone number. His business has been around forever and I thought that was an indication of competence but after seeing the junky business he runs and the idiotic principles he uses I can understand there must be a large enough, uneducated, clientele to keep him in business.
