Child Care Licensing Division is operated by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. It regulates all child care operations and child placing agencies to protect the health, safety and well-being of children in care, largely by reducing the risk of injury, abuse and communicable diseases. The division additionally establishes and monitors operations and agencies for compliance with minimum standards of care. Under the programs, parents and the public are informed and educated about child care and the histories of specific homes, child care operations and child placing operations in complying with minimum standards of care. The division has the additional role of providing consultation, and technical assistance and training for child care providers. It is located in Houston.
