For over one hundred years, the hardware store in Hysham has been providing Hysham and the Treasure County area with building materials and farm/ranch supplies. The unique mission architecture draws you to the store which has been recently renovated. The store is an exceptional blend of new technology and old-time character. According to the "Treasure County Booster" written by George O. Criswell, C. H. Chase Lumber Company moved to the newly laid out Hysham townsite in 1906. The name was changed to Midland Lumber Company sometime after that. In August of 1921, North Midland Company sold the lumber yard and hardware store to Bradbrook Saunders Lumber & Hardware Co and the two competing lumber yards were merged. In 1945, Don Nansel and Hugh Hamilton formed a partnership to buy Bradbrook Saunders and renamed it Treasure Lumber and Hardware. The partnership lasted until Hamilton's retirement in 1968. Don and his wife, Dottie, sold the store to Lee and Linda Pollock in 1974. The store joined the Ace Hardware coop in 1982. Dana and Barb Schulz purchased the store in July of 2002 and began the task of renovating the buildings and building back the business. Today, Hysham Hardware & Lumber is a full-service hardware store, lumber yard, and ranch supply provider.
