Annually, the Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad responds to nearly 700 calls totaling more than 3,200 man hours. These calls range in nature from non-emergency service calls to emergency medical calls to house fires to motor vehicle accidents. Its members give freely of their time and effort to provide this service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Although every response is a different situation, there is one thing that each one had in common as each was handled by an all volunteer staff dedicated to saving lives and property. In addition to the many hours spent responding to calls for help, the members of the IHVFD & RS spend more than 5,600 hours in training in such areas as emergency medical technician, firefighter I, hazardous materials, confined space rescue, fire officer I and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In addition to the hours spent on calls and training, members log nearly 8,800 man hours on other related duties, including station and apparatus maintenance, administrative duties, company and county meetings, fund raising, fire prevention and stand-by duty. The Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad is located in Indian Head, Md.
