The City of Indianapolis Fire Department works to provide a safe and professional response to fire, medical and environmental emergencies. The department is also responsible for the loss of life and property through fire suppression, rescue, education, code enforcement and investigation programs. It works with a team of more than 1,070 staff members. The City of Indianapolis Fire Department maintains over 35 fire stations and operates a fleet engines, ladders, squads, tactical support units and safety cars. The department also has a Fire Prevention Division that works for the enforcement of public education, fire codes and building inspections. Its emergency medical services division is responsible for training, assigning and supplying equipment to emergency medical technicians. The City of Indianapolis Fire Department is governed by the City of Indianapolis/Marion County in Indiana.
