Established in 1952, the Irvington Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It is comprised of more than 20 full-time officers and civilian employees. The department has a detective bureau that conducts criminal and accident investigation, processes crime scenes and executes warrants, as well as provides photographic and fingerprinting services. In addition, it organizes senior citizens awareness, neighborhood watch, car safety seat installation and Halloween safety programs. The department also supports the Lost Child Alert and Technology (LOCATER) system, which supplies information through a Web-based program that assists the police officers in the recovery of missing children.
