DO NOT DEAL WITH ISLAMORADA BO...

DO NOT DEAL WITH ISLAMORADA BOAT CENTER!! I am in the service and was transfered from Islamorada to Seattle in June of 2011. I had little notice to prepare for the move and had to find something to do with my boat quick. I left it with Islamorada Boat Center (IBC) to sell under consignment. I was very clear about the price that I would like to get ($20,000, which was $7,000 under blue book) and was also clear about my bottom line ($18,000). The sales manager advised me that they could probably sell the boat for $23,000, so that is what I set the price to initially. I moved across country and after months of hearing nothing from IBC I called them in November to revisit the asking price issue. The sales manager advised me that we should keep the price as it through the beginning of the busy season. After 2 more months of hearing nothing from IBC, I called again and let them know that I would be visiting the Keys for 1 month and needed to sell the boat before I left again. We dropped the asking price to just under $20,000. I re-stressed that my bottom line was $18,000. During the last week I was in town, I received a voicemail from the sales manager that they had an offer on the boat for $15,000 (note that this is $3,000 under my bottom line). I was busy with work, so I didn't get the message for 2 days. When I called back, IBC informed me that they had signed a contract with the buyer and had essentially sold the boat for $15,000!!! They told me that they couldn't keep the buyer waiting and assumed that I would be ok with the price since I didn't call back right away!! I told them that this was unacceptable, reaffirmed that my bottom line was still $18,000, and told them that I was going to move the boat to a different dealer. IBC's general manager called me back and said that they had been sitting on the boat for a long time and needed to make a profit on it (this is completely understandable). He told me that he could get me a check for $18,000 and that IBC would just not take a PROFIT!!! Based on this statement, I believe that IBC sold the boat for $18,000 (or more) and told me that they sold it for only $15,000. I can tolorate a lot of things, but being directly lied to by a crooked salesman is not one of them. After a bit of haggling (can you believe this guy?!) I agreed to accept a check for $17,500. That was during the first week of February. After 1 month without seeing the check, I called IBC to see what was going on. I was put no hold for over 10 minutes without ever reaching anyone the first 4 times I called. The 5th time, I got a bit short with the guy that answered the phone and he put me right through to the finance manager. She informed me that the General Manager was going to have to go over the file and then he will be able to cut the check. I waited another week, heard nothing, and called again. This time I was told that the GM was out of town this week and next, and that he would get to it on March 26th. I called again on March 28th after hearing nothing, and IBC told me that the GM had still not reviewed the file and that they MIGHT be able to get a check cut this week. I still have not yet received my money for a boat that was sold 2 months ago!!
