First Presbyterian Church seeks to provide opportunities for people to encounter the life changing presence of Christ through: preaching, the study of Scripture, engagement in worship, faithful stewardship and service to others in the church and community. First Presbyterian Church was founded on September 25, 1823 and is Jackson's oldest church. The first church was built on the corners of Main and Church streets in downtown Jackson in 1832 and remained until a new church was built in 1912 on the same site. In 1956 the congregation moved to its present location at 1573 N. Highland Avenue, formerly the estate of Clarence and Sally Pigford. Throughout its history, First Presbyterian Church has been a leader in outreach to the Jackson community, a gathering place for meaningful worship, and a warm and inviting congregation that provides enthusiastic fellowship. No matter your age or circumstances in life, we have a place for you here in our church family. The doors of our church and the doors of our hearts are open to you. If you would like to find out more about our church and our opportunities for service, witness, education and worship please contact our Director Congregational Life, Ceil Cowles, in the Church office at 422-1591 or Rev. John White. We would be glad to answer any questions you have! Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, and welcome to the webpage of First Presbyterian Church I came to serve this church as pastor in January of 2003, and in my short time here, I've seen this church involved in many exciting and inspiring events and activities. We have been, and continue to be, leaders in the Jackson community in areas of service and witness, but perhaps most gratifying to me has been to see the spiritual growth of our members and visitors alike. It is out of that spiritual growth and our relationship with Jesus Christ that our service and witness activities are enabled to grow. In John 15, Jesus talks about the necessity of our relationship with Jesus Christ when he says: "I am the vine ; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit ; apart from me you can do nothing." ( John 15: 5 ) My prayer is that we can continue to develop new and exciting ways to enable our members, visitors, and community to grow personally and corporately in their relationship with Jesus Christ. I hope you'll come and join us as we worship, learn about, and celebrate the presence of Jesus Christ in this friendly and welcoming community of faith.
