Recently rented what was supposed to be a compact car from this location. They showed up with a sedan and charged me for a $25 upgrade fee and refused to refund it. As an aside, my receipt says I drove 134 miles which is interesting since I received the car at the Ponte Verda Inn and drove it from the front desk to the surf club on site twice and that was it. This place is pitiful and I will never again use their services

In June, I rented a mini-van for one week from the Jacksonville Airport Hertz office. While traveling, I contacted the Jacksonville Beach Hertz location and was told by a Hertz employee there that we could return this vehicle at their Jacksonville Beach office, which is nearly 30 miles closer to our house, without additional cost. I dropped off the car, undamaged and full of gas, as scheduled and placed the keys in the lock box. I subsequently learned we were assessed nearly $400 in assorted fees including a $200 cleaning charge. When we contacted them, the Jacksonville Beach manager declined to honor the promise of his employee and provided little additional explanation for these fees. He directly contradicted what we were later told by the Hertz national service representative. The manager demonstrated complete indifference to our concern, even when my wife confirmed with the national Hertz office that these charges were not consistent with company policy.
