Hi. Im Wilton Blake. Call me Blake. Im a writer by profession. But at my core, Im a storyteller. I always have been.

I love stories, and Ive dedicated my career to helping nonprofits find, develop, and share their stories in a way that inspires enduring support for what they do.

Charitable organizations, and the people they serve, suffer the most during difficult financial times. My personal mission is to help grow sustainable nonprofits by improving the stories they tell. I agree with Annette Simmons when she says whoever tells the best story wins.

If you are anything like me, you enjoy a good movie. It feels wonderful to sit back and be enveloped by a story told on the big screen. What I most want to share is how the same narrative structure used in filmmaking can be used by nonprofits to genuinely enchant donors, volunteers, grantmakers, and policy makers. Once enchanted, they become loyal advocates for your organization and cause.

I am endlessly enchanted by the film Casablanca. Dont get me started or Ill talk for hours about why its is the best movie ever! Im sure you have your favorite too.But I didnt always believe in storytelling. When I was much younger, I felt the need to be important and influential, so I gave up stories, studied business and went to law school. I worked for a few years as an attorney. I quit. No lawyer jokes, please. I enjoyed the law, but I enjoy storytelling more.

And now, Im right where I should be. Im working with nonprofits and telling their stories. I also watch lots of moviesgood ones and bad ones. I work on my screenplay when I have the time. And I spend far too much time online playing with all of the new social media tools.
