Provided by YPmobileI own a rattery and rat rescue. A woman text me a week ago about a hairless female rat she had purchased from CJs. It wasn't taking care of the litters that they kept forcing her to pump out, so they decided to feed her to a snake (which is why the woman purchased her). Well a few weeks later, she pops out a litter of 8 pups. 2 are stillborn. The female wouldn't stop bleeding so I took over the care of the pups so she could care for the mom. The fifth pup ended up passing away a few days later due to a bad respiratory infection that the meds didn't cure. What did CJs offer to do when she called about the pregnant female they sold her? Feed the pups to snakes. The mother has since then been to the vet due to a developing respiratory issue. They ignorantly bred rats who were to young, with no thoughts to the health or genetics of the parents, to make a profit because hairless rats are a novelty among rat owners, new and old. They dont care about the animal, only the profit. Ive talked to them on previous occasions about their animals and have been horribly disappointed by their general ignorance on the matter.

Provided by YP.comI joined YP just to rate this place. Ive been going to pet stores for 30+ years and never had the experience I had with CJs. They have a great selection of healthy looking reptiles. I bought a baby iguana for my son last week from CJs. Our guy didnt seem to be eating so I called CJs. They immediately offered to take a look at him. CJ and Lakesha are extremely knowledgable and provided me some different greens to take home. He started eating almost immediately. The most amazing thing is just before bed time I received a call from Lakesha asking how our little guy was doing. I have never in my life had a pet store call me to check and see how a new pet was doing. Amazing customer service and Ill be a customer for life!!!!

Provided by YP.comIt was very hot inside and appeared dirty, was worried about some of the animals, employees didn't seem to know much about any of the animals. Would rather go the extra time across town to make sure I'm supporting healthy animals.

Provided by YP.comAt first my husband and I were extremely fond of CJ's jungle madness, and always promised the staff that we were faithful clientele. One day while browsing through the store as we picked up our normal bag of crickets, we started discussing baby savannah monitors with one of the teenagers who works there. While my husband and this woman were talking, I couldnt help but notice the woman's child squeezing a baby bunny by its waist and shaking it vigorously. The child couldn't have been more than four years old but still, it was abuse none the less and extremely unprofessional of the woman who didn't seem to Notice. Me and my husband shared a look of disgust as we walked out the door. Assuming that woman and her child would not be there again when we came back a couple days later. we talked to another staff member about putting a down payment on a baby monitor. (Our down payment was placed in Dec. 2012) She said that we were guaranteed our monitor as soon as possible because the breeders they buy their animals from tend to try and breed monitors throughout the year. So we waited. And waited... Three or four weeks went by and We never got a all from the establishment saying our monitor was in yet. I took it upon myself to call this facility and discuss with them why I hadn't heard anything. When I got ahold of the woman working at the time (the same one with the bunny shaking daughter) she told me she would call her manager and she guaranteed a call back. Did I get one? You guessed it, no. At this point i was rather pissed off. When I called back the woman had an attitude with me so I kindly asked her if I could have my down payment back because at this point I was stern with my decision to never visit CJ's again. She (in a quite snappy manner) told me that they do not do cash back but rather "store credit"... Give me a break, right? So, I was patient and waited a little while longer for a call which I had never gotten. Finally a couple days ago ( march 12th 2013) my husband and I went into another pet store and were elated when we saw that that carrier HAD baby Savannah's, so we went directly to CJ's and used our store credit on things our baby savannah monitor would need, since they would never be giving us our money back anyways. If this isn't enough to make you think twice about shopping at CJ's then maybe this will, when we walked into this establishment for the final time, I had asked the staff member If I could check out their baby hog island boa. The woman replied that the animal was in shed, (which it didn't look like it was, I've had snakes my whole life) but I complied and asked if I could look at another snake instead. This woman had the nerve to be rude enough to say that the snake was nippy, then proceeds to feed the damn thing in the same cage they handle it in!! Are you kidding me?! Of course it's nippy, you unprofessional people are feeding this snake in the same tank you let actual INTERESTED customers handle him in. I was extremely upset with the way this awful woman handled this and I will never ever go to CJ's again. If any of my friends or family ever ask me of a quality reptile shop, CJ's will not be the first place I refer. I would rather drive to Mandarin for Blazin' Reptiles, or Ace's reptile emporium in the flea market. Both those businesses are extremely professional, they know what they are talking about and none of their animals look unhealthy, unlike CJ's. All in all, CJ's is an absolute JOKE.

Provided by YP.comI had a similar experience as fankc and ConstructiveC. Not necessarily saying that the employees need to be subject matter experts on every animal but they should know the gender of what they are selling. I wanted a male and was told the chinchilla on sale was a male. When I went to pet it, it immediately sprayed me which is something only females can do. Had I purchased this chinchilla, I would have little accidental babies running around right now because I already have a male at home. Also, in response to the owners reply, how could you have guaranteed the chinchilla to be healthy when it left your store? Just because it was healthy when you received it, that doesn't mean it will still be healthy when it is sold. Internal hemorrhaging doesn't seem likely to occur in less than a 24 hour period unless those people were throwing that poor animal against the wall or throwing it onto the floor with malicious intent. My male chinchilla has taken accidental falls from my shoulder height many times and he is still alive. Just my observation.

Provided by YP.comAs a business owner who should always put the customer satisfaction first, I disagree with how the owner settled the mishap. I am sure the customer did not want to spend more time and effort trying to provide lab and diagnostic test results for an exotic pet dying in less than 24 hours. If the customer had some at home, there is no reason for mishandling to occur. One star given on lack of customer service when I made a visit, and the gender of chinchilla was incorrect as well.

Provided by YP.comI would give them no stars if possible. Horrible experience, bought a chinchilla from there, and less than 24 hours it died. Tried to return, exchange, or store credit, and ended up having to front up money for a vet to determine why it died, no reimbursement and they just earned two very unhappy, unsatisfied non-returning customers. The one-week guarentee on livestock is a total lie and scam. PLEASE don't make the same mistake we did! We have two other chinchillas at home so we know how to care for them. We even had to let the store know which chinchilla was a boy and which one was a girl, the ones they had for sale!
I’m very sorry you had a bad experance at our location. I the owner did offer you another chinchilla at wholesale cost due to the vet resorts. The vet stated this was a healthy animal. But the animal died of internal hemorrhage. Our guarantee states we are selling you a healthy animal and if it’s stated by a license vet, it is not healthy we will replace the animal. But we will not replace animals for new owners mishandling.
