I was scheduled for a procedure in the office. I went for my scheduled time, was checked in, was given medication, waited for an hour and half to be told that it was a mix up and I couldn't receive the procedure. So, I was sent home. Needless to say, I will never go back.

Don't go here. Go any where but here. The doctor was so distracted she didn't know from first visit to the next why I was there, the receptionist was rude and unfriendly at both visits. They made me pay upfront costs before reaching out to health insurance provider and it took the health insurance provider to request they return monies due to me via a three-way call (after calls to the billing dept myself). There are so many good options for good quality care, this is not one of them.

Dear patient,

I am posting this message to let you know how sorry we are to hear of your experience at our office. Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your visit. It is through input like yours that we learn and have the opportunity to evaluate what we do, and how we do it.

Firstly, I would point out that in the many years of performing ultrasounds here, this is the first time any patient has indicated any concern over having the sonographer present. This is not to say that patients do not ask the sonographer to leave, but I believe it is the first time I have heard a complaint. That being said, I believe you are correct, and it is not appropriate to expect patients to change in the presence of another person. Therefore, we are evaluating solutions to the problem. In the meantime, the team of sonographers who work here have been retrained to be considerate of patients privacy.

With regards to the waiting room, we often invite our patients to leave a urine sample while they are in the waiting room, awaiting their appointment with the provider. This just saves a little time in the grand scheme of things and puts the waiting time to good use. Subsequent to the ultrasound appointment, we routinely check with the medical assistants to determine whether the Doctor is ready to bring you back, which in 90% of the time, is the case. During your appointment with the sonographer, your Doctor was finishing up with other patients and there were no free examination rooms to take you to. Typically we find our patients prefer to wait in the waiting room, rather than in the examination rooms.

As to some of the terminology that is presented to you via the patient portal, we find that a great deal of the coding jargon utilized is inconclusive and misleading to patients since many of the codes and their descriptions are used for a vast array of different symptoms. We are hopeful with the introduction of ICD-10, this will improve as the new system in vastly superior in its’ ability to pinpoint diagnosis.

With the advent of patients having the opportunity to review the medical record in our portal, we have found that many of our patients are confused and sometimes concerned by some of the terminology used and required by insurance companies. This process coupled with the mechanism with which the electronic medical records documents, mean that often, the language is not easy to follow. There are many aspects to proper documentation in the medical record and often we need to combine different areas of information to build the complete picture.

It is unfortunate you could not have communicated your concerns directly to our office, prior to writing your blog. I believe given the opportunity to discuss this with us, you would have a much better understanding of what we do, and how much we care about every patient and their health. We are sorry to lose you as a patient but hope you are able to find a practice that is a better fit.

Kind regards

Brian Thorn

I do not recommend this practice

I had read mixed reviews before going here, but was hoping for the best. Well I now join the ranks of bad reviews for this practice. The ultrasound technician does not leave the room while you undress and re-dress. I have never experienced that anywhere before, and it was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. You are shuttled back and forth to the waiting room (3x!!) made to wait in between everything, urine sample, ultrasound, seeing the doctor; rather than everything being done in a smooth process. I've looked at my online record of the appt. and 80% of the information is wrong- from my weight (off by 30 lbs more than I weigh, putting my BMI as very high. My BMI is 19, and Fabens records show it being 24. Lol!) to the reason for my visit; A totally incorrect unrelated reason was listed for my appt. reason. That is frightening to me, as I was there for an extremely important reason.. I will not be returning to this practice ever again, I have already switched OB's, and would never recommend them to anyone.

Spa like? They may want to reconsider that description!

Do NOT Recommend.

I started going here when I found out I was pregnant because my kidney doctor I was seeing said they were the best he knew of. I am COMPLETELY dissatisfied. I was hurried along through every single one of my appts and ultrasounds. When I continuously complained of sharp "broken glass feeling" stabbing pains in my upper abdomen, they never checked It or offered an explanation. During a pap smear I had at 5 months, I was told It came back abnormal and I needed a Colposcopy done and samples taken (for those of you who don't know, they stick a long metal clamp up your v****a and then while it's in there, take a sharp Medical blade and cut off small pieces of your cervix for examination. Being pregnant, It was painful, not just "uncomfortable". It reached two and a half months later and I never heard another word about It. No results or anything.

I decided to get a new obgyn and informed FABEN of the change. I had paid Co-pays at EVERY one of my visits during the seven months. the Billing department informed me, no, I only paid three copays the entire time. And when I asked for the refund of the delivery fee and circumcision fee I paid at the last visit I had there (at 23 weeks), they informed me they have to send their bills to my insurance company and whatever I owe them after that will be taken out of my delivery fee and circumcision fee (those two totaling over a thousand dollars I had had to pay to them). When I told them no, I had bank records even showing I already paid the copays for every visit I had had, therefore paying what I needed to pay for those visits thus far, she became extremely rude and told me no, I was wrong, I still only paid three and they would be taking money out of my refund. Money I had already paid. They are uncaring thieves and I advise NOONE to go to them.

I sincerely hoped the best for my visit to Faben and was disappointed. This place felt nothing like a spa to me (it is advertised on the website as a "spa-like setting") - it seemed entirely similar to any other ob/gyn office I've ever been to except you wear a thin robe for the exam instead of the standard medical sheet. Aside from the main receptionist, the staff seemed short and hurried - the nurse wrote down my medical history on a napkin and though she said she did so in order to remember it, that seemed unprofessional at best. I had to specifically request to speak with the doctor before undressing, which I've never had to do before in a new office. Disposable exam tools were sitting out uncovered - the doctor said they didn't have to be sterile and while that may be true, I prefer my former (but out-of-state, sadly) office's practice of using individually wrapped ones. I was open with my concerns and give the doctor credit for listening and offering not to charge me. When I asked if there was anything else she could tell me about the office (hoping it would change my mind) she responded that she was not in sales. While I understand that to some extent, having taken the time to carefully look through the website, I thought she might be a little more reassuring since that is one of their selling points.

All the Doctors are wonderful ...

All the Doctors are wonderful and caring. Me and my friend both had our second children with FABEN. The staff have proven to be friendly and caring, I would recommend this practice to anyone needing a woman's care.

Great practice

I had my daughter at FABEN. I received excellent and attentive care. She is now 6 and I continue to see them. I love that the doctors can relate to me since they are mothers too. I would and have recommended them many times.

I feel I'm being generous by g...

I feel I'm being generous by giving two stars for this practice. After receiving my positive home pregnancy test, I was devastated to find out my gyno of 7 years no longer does obstetrics, and was left to find a new doctor. Faben was able to see me right away, which was a plus. My first visit was a blur. Basic vitals taken on one floor, then I was sent to another floor for an ultra sound, and then back to the other floor for results. The doctor was brief and basically said I was not far enough along to provide any information. I semi expected this since I was only 4 weeks. They scheduled me for a repeat ultrasound at 6 weeks. I returned for my 2nd appointment and waited in the waiting room for about 15 minutes before I was told to go to the other floor. Once there, the ultrasound was performed quickly and I was sent back to the 16th floor for the results. When the doctor finally arrived to my room, she walked in and congratulated me, even gave me a hug, and said that everything looked good. As she sat down to show me the ultrasound, it was then that she realized she hadn't read the entire report. She then went on to tell me that they didn't see what she expected to ( a fetal pole and heartbeat) and that she was very concerned my pregnancy would not be viable. She then began telling that they would do another scan in a week and we would discuss a possible D&C or pills to end the pregnancy. I was crushed. She did try to console me with a prayer. The doctor never performed an exam on me, never asked my medical history, and didn't even notice I only have one ovary! They did no follow up blood tests either. Two days later I saw a much better physician and they confirmed that all is healthy with my baby. I do not recommend the Faben practice.

AWFUL

They sent me to specialist b/c of high risk, but after not scheduling with them, they dropped me. It was a misunderstanding, but they said i was non-compliant, even if i was being seen by the specialist. Basically said no doctor would accept me anywhere but maybe Shands. Offered no help! I later called & i asked them for documentation stating the grounds for non-compliance they said to pay them delivery fees $4700 (that day) & then they'll continue to see me. Julie the office manager was rude and unprofessional the whole time i talked w/ her and hung up in my face when i said that was patient abandonment. THEY SUCK BIG TIME!!!

find another

i will never go here again. you sit in the room for a hour waiting for the doctor to come in for 5 min. and when i went to have my baby the dr. was hardly ever in the room she came in to induce my labor the day before and i didnt see her again until it was time to push and even then she wasn't even at the hospital they told me i had to keep the baby in until she got there. she was in the room for less than 15 min but they charge you an arm and a leg to do nothing. the nurses did more than she did. the mid wife i loved she is so kind and sweet. my overall experience i hated.

Avoid if high risk!

The office is nice but some of the staff are not quite so nice. I was a high risk pregnancy and they knew this when I decided to use them. Well it got to the point where they were too worried for no good reason and decided to drop me and send me to a new doctor when I was 7 months pregnant! Almost to the end and I had to quickly find a new doctor and get them updated on everything! Even my new OB stated how unbelievable this was. Most of the doctors here are ok (just ok) and my main problem was one particular Dr. that I wont name. Honestly if you are a high risk patient find a different OB. Save yourself the pain and frustration.

Caring & compassionate doctors!

My experience with Faben OB/GYN has so far been great. I had a high risk pregnancy and had to spend the last month of it in hospital bedrest. Not only did I feel that I received high quality medical care, but Dr. Kohaut and the other physicians also provided me with much needed compassion and moral support during a very difficult time. Thank-you Faben!
