The reason why I gave Step Ahead 1 star is the lack of common sense! I have a 3 year old child and I went for a free trial. Parents are not allowed inside of the the gym to watch their kids but their lobby which is used to view the children is terrible! The 2 way mirror they have is a great idea but they keep the lobby brighter than the gym so you can not see anything inside of the gym, they have big chairs in front of the mirrors which make viewing inaccessible and they also dont have enough viewing space for parents. Many 3 year olds can not communicate effectively enough to tell you if they like an activity or what exactly they did. Parents want to see how their children are acting and what they are doing in class. Even after the trial I do not know if my child likes the class or if the class was good enough for my child.

My girls go to Step Ahead and they have learned a lot of gymnastic and dance skills!, They love it there and I know they are safe and loved there!

My son and I LOVE this place!!! The owner and staff really care about their customers and take the time to give individual help. Would recommend Step Ahead to anyone!!

My preschooler has gone to Step Ahead for over a year now and loved it! The set up of the gym is nice, because parents can view their child in the lobby, but their children can't see them (so they aren't distracted). While yes, it is probably small compared to gyms in more metro cities, it is a really nice gym for a smaller city like Jacksonville. The staff have always been nice to my child and myself, and in between seasons they remember my daughters name even though it may have been a month or two since seeing her. No complaints!

My children have been with this gym since it opened. It's the safest and most professionally run business I know in Jacksonville. When I leave my kids at the gym I know that their safety and well-being is the priority. For a small town it's a top notch gym for cheerleading, gymnastics, and even dance!!

My children have attended Step Ahead for 3 years and we are very pleased. The pre-school classes are excellent. As a former gymnastics instructor, I feel my children are getting quality instruction, as well as learning quality technique and proper terminology which is important to me as my daughter progresses to higher levels. I like the set up of the gym, so that I can watch my child participate without my child being able to see me. I feel like this helps them to learn to focus and not be distracted by what is going on in the lobby. The competitive team is outstanding. I have been very impressed when watching them practice. The size of the gym doesn't bother me, it is not huge, but it is the biggest one in town and for a town the size of Jacksonville, I wouldn't expect a big gym. I would and do recommend this gym to anyone who is looking for a gym here in Jacksonville.

My husband and I were looking for a gym that our two children could attend. We went to both gyms that are here in jacksonville. Even though the other one was cheaper we had a really good experience with step ahead and have been there ever since. The coaches absolutely love the children and the children love them���� The owner is the nicest lady with years of experience. Safety IS a top priority from there mommy and me class to there elite proformance teams. They have multiple boys coaches who have taught my three year old to things some adults can't do. My daughter not only does gymnastics, she takes ballet as well. She is four and comes home saying she learned how to do a plié and grand plié. So they definitely are teaching the right techniques and teaching them the terminology. I would and do recommend Step Ahead Gymnastics to everyone!!

The one word to describe the management in this facility is WOW. I took a tour of the place and within 1 minute i was done, thats how small it is. My daughter was on gymnastics team at another place out of state and because of my job we had to move. She used to go 16 hours a week being a level 6 and at this place it was i believe 9 hours. I also talked to some of the parents while she was getting evaluated and was told they do not get the equipment time they need do to the recreational classes. I asked why they continued to stay here and the response was they didn't have the time to drive to one of the better gyms either in Wilmington or New Bern. I quickly made my decision to make the time to drive to one of those gyms just so my girl can learn skills and hopefully earn a scholarship. After going to the New Bern gym I was informed that many of the children that went to Step Ahead transferred over to this gym and are very successful.

I wrote a not so nice comment on their Facebook page and they reported me. It was not even a nasty thing. I just wrote how its crazy that the kids who miss class has to go to their open gym program where they don't even get gymnastics instruction. This place is pure crap

I have know the owner Christy for years. I need to finally get this out to the public. She is a horrible, no good for nothing boss. She loves talking about everyone behind their back. She will never tell the customers the truth. She will not even tell her employees the truth. Everyone that works for her she has talked about behind their back. She over pays the worst coaches and under pays the good ones. She pays her father and sister who do not even work there. ( the get paid more then the most qualified teacher there) The equipment is old the gym is small 1/2 the coaches are not even qualified to coach the sport. Her all star cheer team spends more then have the practice sitting around doing nothing. She signs them up for competitions where they basically are competing against themselves just so she can get a banner and make her team look good. This is the worst excuse of a gym the coaches cannot sport worth a damn nor teach a skill properly. Its pathetic. so go ahead and throw your money out and go to this piece of S of a gym

Well I must say this was a waste of time just doing the free trial class. I would never allow my child to go to an unorganized, unqualified, dirty place like this. I was excited to have my little one get into gymnastics but it won't be at this place. It was pure chaos and a lot of waiting inline. I rather take the longer drive to the other gym closest to j-ville. WARNING: The staff/owner is rude, the gym is over crowded and dirty.

If your think this is a gymnastics facility then you are mistaken. Cheerleading is the main goal in this place, which the cheer team is not even good. The "recreational" classes that bring in the money are treated like crap. Those poor kids get maybe 6 turns in total between 3 teachers that they rotate round. Why they don't have one coach that has a group of their own and go to each event with those kids is beyond me. The coaches can not remember the kids name or ability week from week. Maybe after 1/2 a year they might remember something about that child. I have hear gossiping in the lobby from parent to parent about the poor quality of this gym. I did eventually take my kids out and bought them to new bern gymnastics. If you have a boy then your boy will never advance in this gym there is no boys team. So if I have to take my son somewhere else then you better believe my daughter is going too… It was the best move for my children. My little girl has improved so much since switching gyms next year she will be put on the team. My son who is younger is doing great and we are hoping to get him on team in the next 2 years…. If you have the time to drive to new bern then do it!!!!!! otherwise maybe you should find another sport for your children because they are surely learning nothing at step ahead

This is the worst gym…I have to laugh about how the other comment said they are honest. The owner is very fake, she will tell you what you want to hear. They have unqualified coaches, who drop children. The place is unorganized and very small.

Step ahead is awesome all the coaches are great I'm a team gymnast and I love my coach she is tough but a great coach!!
