AMTEC Corporation manufactures precision mechanical and electro-mechanical products for the United States Department of Defense and its prime contractors. AMTEC's 72,000 square-foot manufacturing facility, located in Janesville, Wis., produces ordnance products, such as training ammunition, fuzes, firing devices, and initiators. AMTEC Corporation is part of National Presto, a recognized leader in the electric housewares industry due to its long history of innovation and the creation of major new categories of labor-saving products. The company was founded in 1905 in Eau Claire, Wis. It manufactured industrial-size pressure canners, known as "canner retorts," for commercial canneries. Subsequently, the company also began production of 30-gallon canners for hotel use and soon thereafter developed 10-gallon models suitable for home canning. In 1915 the company installed an aluminum foundry for the specific purpose of manufacturing large-size pressure canners for home use. From pressure cookers to electric skillets, from the Presto Burger maker to compact pizza cookers, National Presto has consistently been on the leading edge of electric kitchen products.
