Opened in 1989, the Will County Adult Detention Facility provides detention of individuals awaiting trial or serving criminal sentences of up to one year. The facility has received accreditation status through the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Accreditation for Corrections. It is comprised of 156,000 square feet of space and houses more than 450 inmates in several multiple-level housing units. The units surround a common dayroom, exercise area and visitation room. The facility provides social service and educational programs. Inmates can pursue high school-equivalency diplomas, receive drug and alcohol counseling and attend weekly worship services. The Will County Adult Detention Facility is located in Joliet, Ill.
