I Needed Change

I needed to change...I learned that at the age of 44, having the same habits developed for half of of my life, if I continue to do the same thing and expect a different result, that is insanity unto itself.

I was warned that becoming sober might confuse my loved ones. It sure did, my Husband and and Son did not know what this Woman was? She was different. I will be a sober Grandmother at about Christmas-Time. Wow, what a sobering thought! Life! Live, Love!

Stay with the Program. It is not easy but the rewards will reward you like you cannot believe. I have another business underway that makes me have to sit down and pay attention.

Blessings

Carol.

"When I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration, I was put on a detox program. I woke up that morning trying to get ready to go to the office and couldn't even button my pants, I was delirious. I didn't even know what day of the week it was. I spent 6 days in the hospital, when I left it took 2 people to pull me out of a chair so that I could stand. My wife had done some extensive research and found HIR on the Internet and made arrangements for me to go there.

I tried to keep an open mind about the whole process at least as clear as my mind was at the time. I found everyone to be very pleasant and accommodating. Through the group sessions, the AA meetings and the individual counseling I came to the realization that I was addicted to alcohol and had the disease of alcoholism.

I considered myself to be one of the lucky ones because my recovery seemed to be very fast. Just half of the first week into the program the fog or haze, as I would call it, lifted for me. The rest is now history. I was well on my way into the second week. The HIR experience for me was a good one and the track that we followed seemed to work for me.. There is a lot of structure involved and HIR keeps you on task and that was good.

The ultimate result for me was to recover, stay sober, and find the directions to take so that I would have continued success once I left the program. I am very happy to say that I accomplished all my goals and now considered myself a sober alcoholic.

I can only be very thankful to my wife, my family for their love and support along with my experience with HIR for my success

MY LIFE HAS CHANGED!!"

Amazingly helpful staff

I had the opportunity to go with Hawaiian Island Recovery to participate in the Dolphin therapy program. I know a lot of people would laugh at the idea of sending a drug addict or alcoholic to Recovery Program in Hawaii. Well Let me say this, Wow, it is no joke it is not a vacation and they do amazing work... The are great at EMDR (trauma work) and there staff is amazing... Thank you so much for the experience yesterday..Jeff P.

Hawaii Island Recovery (HIR) p...

Hawaii Island Recovery (HIR) provided me with a safe and secure place to recover. The family environment at the residence extends into the community of Kailua Kona, Hawaii- where I attended 12-Step meetings twice a day during treatment. Through group and individual therapy at HIR I came to understand that the disease of addiction is centered in my thinking. I was able to confront core issues; abuse, eating disorders, panic attacks, depression. The combination of a sober mind, a healthy body, and sessions with Dr. John Hibscher, PhD. (Clinical Director, HIR) I could finally understand how the abuse I experienced affected every decision I made. Prior to surrendering to the clinical team at HIR, I had seen a dozen therapists and psychiatrists, no one was capable of creating a safe place for me to heal. For the first time in my life I felt like I was not alone in my struggle to recover. Ironically, I always considered "home" as everything and everyone I was raised with. Today, I have a new understanding of the cliche: "home is where the heart is". It was not until I was completely hopeless and discontented that I found my family at HIR and my home in the community of Kailua-Kona. Thank you for showing me how to live; happy, clean, and sober. Thank you for Loving me until I could love myself. - Gratefully, AM (California, USA)

Thank You So much Hawaii Island Recovery

When I became an alcoholic, I know that I have hurt the ones I love. But at that time of addiction, I was so selfish that I only think of myself. And then one day, a realization came into me...I cannot be an alcoholic forever and I already needed help. That's when I learned about Hawaii Island Recovery. At Hawaii Island Recovery, I was able to deal with my alcoholism through their direct therapy. In my more than a month of stay there, I realized that each day of my recovery is a giant step removed from the lifestyle I want to escape.

More Power to Hawaii Island Recovery

Wow, I cannot thank you enough. Top of the line treatment in every way and believe it or not, you made it amazing! From top therapy to integrating my post user life, you gave me the tools to make a real difference in the world. I went from being a successful business person, with a lousy life, and a big ROCK on my back, to a better human being and a real fine husband and parent. You gave me the tools, way more than just in clinic, your integration tools for community and healthy living - the gym and workouts and the chefs, and nutrition really put me on track to win. Life is amazing, and to think, at one point I considered that my only option was to end it all! Now I can hardly wait for each new day - thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Mahalo to all at Hawaii Island Recovery

I’ve been struggling with alcoholism since the age of fifteen, for it was the only way I new how to cope with my problems. Years into this terrible addiction, I found myself at the brink of losing everything important to me in my life. My wife was filing for a divorce, my family stopped talking to me, My kids lost all respect for me, I was facing job termination, and I soon found myself waking up in a psychiatric hospital depressed, defeated, and torn. My sister, heartbroken and tired of watching her younger brother’s life spiral out of control, approached me about a residential program she had learned about called Hawaii Island Recovery. I felt hesitant at first about this idea but knew this may be the last chance for me to make things right. Once I arrived at HIR, I was immediately greeted with open arms by staff who to this day, I call my “ohana”. I’ve met mentors here who have “walked my walk” and understood what it took to live a clean and sober life. For the first time in my life, I felt there was hope for me. Each day was filled with Educational group meetings, recreation therapy, individual counseling, and trips to the gym. I can’t forget to mention, the excellent food and the resort like atmosphere of HIR, making it so much easier to recover. Today I am happy to say that I live a sober and healthy life. I made an amends with my wife and our relationship is filled with love and happiness. I’m slowly gaining trust back from family and friends that I have hurt in the past. I was able to keep my job and I’m much more productive in my work. Thanks to the experiences at HIR, I’ve truly learned to live a happy and sober life. Mahalo to all at Hawaii Island Recovery!
