With a surgical subspecialist father, Dr. George Seifert grew up with medicine his whole life. He was always drawn to healthcare as a result and thought he would likely follow the same specialty path as his father. However, after being exposed to primary care, he was drawn to the varied challenges it poses and the continuity with patients that if offers. So he became a family physician and has enjoyed it ever since.Honesty, hard work and community service are values Dr. Seifert was taught from his parents and grandparents at an early age. They have been strongly held tenants in his life ever since. When he was in college, he developed relationships that exposed him to new ideas and different perspectives, which continue to inform him on his life going forward.Dr. Seifert enjoys what he does because he gets to help patents and colleagues face and overcome barriers to better health. He has special interests in evidence-based strategies for better health promotion and disease. In his free time, he enjoys reading, gardening, cooking and playing tennis as well as other exercise activities.As a resident I learned that the word physician means teacher. I see my role as one who gather's information from patients and other sources, and then uses this information to advise patients on the best course in order to improve their health—whether this is for addressing an acute problem, for management of a chronic disease or for health promotion and disease prevention. I look forward to partnering with patients in order to achieve these goals.
