Provided by YP.comThis is a quaint barbershop on the southbound side of ~72nd to 75th Sts of the Troost corridor. The exterior is neat and the nayborhood consists of lower middle class folks. Contrary to what some folks might think or say about violence and shootings, this part of Troost is safe, clean, and fine. (There are shootings in overland park and north of river also! so plz stop the stereotyping thankyou). The shop has 2 barbers--the owner Curtiss and his sidekick named ? ?~40-something guy. The prices are a bit on the high end_in that a basic cut with facial hair trim is $20 instead of $17 like other places in town.
But is a basic short hair + moustache trim up cut for a black man really worth the cost of $20? Take a moment to think about what goes into the price of the cut: 1) the location is probably a high insurance district since it is in the 'hood , 2) the barber does follow your directions and tries to make the cut fit with your natural hairline and face features. Some barbers will go off on their own and cut it like they want you to look. The main two things a black man's haircut needs are an even bump-free razor line without pushing the fore-head and neck area line back/up too far if it is thinning and secondly the cut should be even without digs and bleeding cuts/scrapes. Curtiss has a good control of the clippers and don't scratch up your neck and make your hariline bleed irritations. And 3) the wait for a cut is usually about 30 minutes--which is fine because most shops you wait longer.
So, all in all, I would say that this shop gives fine ser 4) A final aspect of a good barbershop is follow-up service--in that suppose when you get back home and really examine your cut with your own mirrors and good lighting you find some errors. How does this barbershop deal with that if you call them back and want something fixed---like a hairline or an un-even part of hair? This is something important to consider.
So, all in all I would say that the cuts are good but the price is a bit on the high end_yet this prolly includes the tip fee.
I would say the cuts are good but surely $20 is too pricey for Black folks who are already strugglin to make ends meet. Curtis is a skilled barber
