Amazing, I couldn’t believe how great my hair looked the last time I went to Cost Cutters and I’m even more amazed that they’ve managed to loose the only reason I kept coming back, Diane Petrillo. Though I’m unaware of why Diane moved on after many years at that location, I certainly noticed the one-size-fits-all managerial approach after Hair Masters became Cost Cutters.

Perhaps the management at Cost Cutters doesn’t realize the difference between a global commodity and a personal service. The problem with offering personal services at great deals is that you end up with a great deal on something you wished you hadn’t bought. Unlike steel or crude oil, a haircut can’t be reduced to a specification and bartered on a dollars-per-ton basis. The value of a haircut is the perception it creates and is achieved through a creative process. Such a process requires building a relationship between the stylist and the customer, thus a real investment. When Cost Cutters lost Diane, they lost an investment.

If the folks at “Bargain Basement Haircuts” have chosen to cash in their investment and sell cheap haircuts by the rail car, so be it. I’m choosing to retain my investment and a little research has revealed that Diane’s talent is still available. For all of Diane’s customers who would like to recoup their investment, she is available, with all her styling talent, at Cut and Design at 49 Water street here in Keene NH.
