Dr. Erik Barnes and his wife, Tina, started the Kenai Veterinary Clinic as a part-time practice in 1963. It was located in his A-frame home on the bluff 20 miles north of Kenai. Dr. Dan Lavach, a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology, purchased the practice from Dr. Barnes in 1977 and moved it to mile 16.4 on the north Kenai road. Dr. Richard McCartan purchased the practice from Dr. Lavach in August of 1978 and moved that building to the present location in October of 1981. A new building was built, renamed Kenai Veterinary Hospital, and occupied in October of 1983. The facilityĆ¢??s interior was extensively remodeled in 2005, and an addition to the building with a new roof was completed in 2006.

My dog had a HORRIBLE visit. I am out of state, so prearranged what my dog needed to get on the plane. His needs were as follows "general checkup, cut his nails, NO rabies shot as he just had one". I just needed a health certificate. Simple right? Well when my dog got there, he had his general checkup, but they obviously OVERLOOKED his very long nails!!!! So they did not cut them AND gave him a RABIES shot!!!!! Do these folks need a baby sitter??? On top of that, they listed the WRONG ADDRESS WRONG STATE that my dog was being sent to!!! When I called them on this, they said to bring him back in for his nails (impossible as he would not be in Alaska), and apologized for giving another rabies. As far as the wrong state goes, they said they could change it. Of course, doing all this would cost more money. So I screamed and shouted and asked for a boss and she said "the buck stops here. I am the owner". Se didn't care one but and I told her she was a rip off. That place is horrible. They could have called ME while my dog was there if they had any questions, but they didn't even try!!! My minor child brought him in with a friend and I told them not to worry about a thing, everything was prearranged. What idiots. They need a babysitter, new staff, AND a new owner. I am reporting them to the BBB too. Don't support them and spread the word. NOTE: They were very nice to me on the phone BEFORE the appt and also very nice when Payment was made. Watch out!!!
