The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is responsible for the management of offenders in private correctional facilities and state prisons and jails. It provides funding and certain oversight of community supervision. The department also oversees offenders who are released from prison on parole or mandatory supervision. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice s victim services division offers serves individuals and families who have suffered due to a crime. It coordinates a variety of prison deterrence education programs for reducing recidivism, supporting victims and promoting public safety. The Texas Department of also administers the COURAGE program, which assists youthful offenders to make positive changes in their life.
