Was our favorite camping ground but NOT anymore!!

We have always loved to camp at McLeod. We just camped there for 7 nights. It was our favorite spot until recently. There are camping spots right in the river, fishing is great and lots of wildlife and many many types of birds to watch. They have grassy and shady sites and lots of picnic tables and well kept trash cans. The park grounds are very clean and well maintained. They also have a free splash pad which is great for the kids. They also have 2 nice inexpensive pavilions for parties. Recently we noticed great improvements with a new ranger station and camp store, HOWEVER there are many things that need attention.

1. No suitable shower or bathing facilities. The 1 Shower house has damaged walls with holes and has no doors or shower curtains. The blue shower curtains and metal rods in there now I bought and installed! 2 of the 4 showers have broken knobs.

2. No Laundry. They have 3 washers, only 1 barely works and the 2 dryers working just eat your quarters. Plus they are outside. No laundry building.

3. They allow minor children (age 6-12) to drive golf carts unsupervised. This may not be an issue for some but when the campground is full, they have wild children on these things EVERYWHERE DRIVING RECKLESS!! Gulf carts can be just as dangerous as a vehicle when you have small children on bikes.

4. MY BIGGEST ISSUE!! This campground has access to the river for boating which can be nice but boaters that are not camping are coming thru the park at all speeds!! Speed limits are not enforced and after some are drinking heavily on the sand bars it becomes extremely dangerous. The 1 and only main shower house/ bathroom is on the main road and on the corner of the boat launch road among all the main boat traffic. I was so scared for my children on bikes I have refused to stay there any more until the speeding is under control. Something needs to be done before a child is hurt!! When we complained the rude girl at the front made us feel like we were the problem!!
