There is not a single reason why I would not recommend Shades of Sunderland. I just had my first tattoo done there and could not possibly be more pleased. Bill made me very comfortable and was able to flawlessly recreate the complex and detailed image of a fractal into a beautiful tattoo. The intelligent conversations we had made the total of 6 hours I spent in his chair blow right by. His pricing was fair and honest. I would never go anywhere else for a tattoo after this experience and neither should you. Thanks Bill!

The best place by far. After having a bad experience at another tattoo parlor, Bill was my savior. He completely turned an unexperienced artist's work into a piece of art. Because of my great experience the first time, I went back to Bill for an original tattoo and couldn't be happier with it. The atmosphere is great and made me feel beyond comfortable. For being located so closely to a college campus, the place is very clean and produces great work at even better prices. I will definitely be coming back for more if I ever have the urge to get a new one. Recommended to everyone!

This past week I had the pleasure of getting my first tattoo, script saying “For we are nothing without brotherhood” on my ribs, at Shades of Sunderland. From the second I walked in the door the staff was polite, helpful, and very knowledgeable about all aspects of the industry; able to answer any question that crossed my mind about tattooing. The owner and tattoo artist Bill Sunderland keeps a clean and organized studio, contrary to most other stores around the University of Rhode Island. I went in anxious but I was walked through the procedure carefully and felt immediately calmed. The tattoo took about 2 hours to complete but the time flew by due to the intellectual conversation I had with Bill. In regards to his ability as an artist Bill is a master of his craft, limiting the amount of pain I experienced from little to none. My only regret is that I didn’t have enough money to get another that day. Needless to say when my college student budget loosens up you will find me back at Shades of Sunderland. If you are even considering getting a tattoo stop in and talk to them yourself, and if you’re a URI student like myself fortunately that is just a small walk away.

Bill Sunderland is the best tattoo artist in this area, not only does he treat his clients like family with the utmost respect he is a first rate artist . Would recomend him to anyone and everyone. Not to mention his work speaks for itself...

I have been tatooed several times by owner/artist Bill Sunderland and I fully trust his creative opinion. If in the future I were to get another I would be honored to have him be the tatooist, for I felt "safe" is his enviroment.
