In 2003, Food City ranked 46th on Progressive Grocer's list of America's 50 Largest Supermarket Chains. Food City is a regional grocery store chain with more than 85 locations in Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee, including one in Knoxville, Tenn. Food City stocks the freshest foods in its dairy, produce and meat departments. Most locations feature floral, organic foods and video departments as well. Food City stores are owned and operated by K-VA-T Food Stores. This privately held company maintains its own 900,000-square-foot distribution facility in Abingdon, Va. K-VA-T Food Stores also operates approximately 45 pharmacies and 30 fuel stations.
