The Knox County Solid Waste division is a part of the government of Knox County in Tennessee. It assists citizens with the management of their municipal solid waste. The division maintains collection centers that accept a variety of household hazardous waste, including pesticides, herbicides, cleansers, computer monitors, refrigerators, air conditioners, thermometers, thermostats, adhesives and drain openers. The Knox County Solid Waste division operates various sanitary landfills, transfer stations, and mulching and composting facilities. It administers the recycling of scrap metal, clothing, glass, car batteries, cell phones, ink cartridges, tires, and aluminum and steel cans. In addition, the Knox County Solid Waste division conducts a mixed paper and corrugated cardboard recycling program for county schools.
