The National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to discovering, saving, and studying the world's tropical plants and to share the information worldwide. It is located in Kalaheo, Hawaii, and has been preserving over 1,800 acres of gardens for 35 years. It has gathered thousands of species throughout the tropical world, through various field expeditions by staff and through collaborations with other institutions and researchers to form a living collection. This collection includes a large assemblage of native Hawaiian plant species and breadfruit cultivars in existence. The institution is actively working to restore the degraded habitats, saving the plant species that are otherwise facing extinction. In addition, the National Tropical Botanical Garden provides living classrooms, courses, publications, tours and activities for layman, students, teachers and professionals and creates awareness about the fragile state of ecosystems and plant populations.
