Christmas 2008 my son received a Lionel Polar Express train from his grandparents, and at our Christmas party it stopped working. My son (who was six at the time) said “it just stopped” but I assumed with a house full of kids it may have gotten roughed up. I found LaGrange Hobby Center (LHC) via Lionel’s site and brought the train in for repair & explained the circumstances in which the train stopped working. About a month later I received a call stating the train was done. When I got the train home, I tested it out myself & it worked for maybe 5 minutes before it stopped again.I checked my receipt:$40 – Replacement Golden Whistle & cleaningThis was a brand new train & it appeared that I paid to have it cleaned & to have an ornamental whistle (a $3 piece of plastic) replaced. I’ve been dealing with these guys for over a year and I find their customer service completely unsatisfactory. I was aware of this hobby shop from spending time in La Grange and via Lionel’s site found out they were a licensed Lionel repair shop.In short it is January 2010 and my son’s train has spent 95% of the year with La Grange Hobby’s “licensed repair man.” My initial visit went great but the train only worked for about five minutes and that is where the problems began. Yes I had a warranty for the work, but they failed to mention that their repair man takes summers off, which in the end explains why I was not contacted by either La Grange Hobby or their repair man while my train was being repaired for months at a time. it's hard to find a good Hobby shop for model railroading in h.o. but this hobby shop has a great selection and if it's not in the store Bill will order it for you. or help you find it so great hobbing
