Yvette LaCoursiere, MD, is a board-certified OB/GYN. She provides comprehensive care to women, including maternity care, well woman care, and treatment for common gynecological issues such as abnormal Pap smears, fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, or gynecological infections. Dr. LaCoursiere's expertise is in caring for patients with maternal obesity. She began the http://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/obgyn/maternity/prenatal/mww/Pages/default.aspx at UC San Diego Health. The program, one of only a few in the nation, specializes in providing complete, compassionate care for overweight women before, during, and after pregnancy. It serves women who have had bariatric (weight loss) surgery or who have a BMI of 35 or greater. She enjoys caring for individual patients, but is also committed to improving the health of women as a whole. As a professor in the Department of Reproductive Medicine, Dr. LaCoursiere instructs medical students, residents and fellows. She is also the associate director of the department's residency program at UC San Diego School of Medicine.Dr. LaCoursiere has won the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology & Council on Residency Educations National Faculty Teaching award three times at two institutions and has co-authored over 30 publications. She has also presented regionally and nationally on maternal obesity issues.She began her faculty career as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and returned to UC San Diego School of Medicine to complete the Womens Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) program, where she has focused on outcomes associated with maternal obesity.Dr. LaCoursiere completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and earned her medical degree at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She holds a master's of public health in epidemiology and biostatistics from San Diego State University.
