James Templeman, MD, MPH, is a board-certified geriatrician who specializes in caring for older adults. He provides primary care to patients, with an emphasis on healthy aging, disease prevention, treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, and preservation of function. As a geriatrician, Dr. Templeman aims to keep seniors healthy and high-functioning as they transition through the stages of aging. His expertise includes providing therapeutic and rehabilitative care for conditions or health concerns that are common among the elderly such as frailty, falls, incontinence, memory and cognitive problems, and medication-related side effects. He cares for elders across many health settings, including clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and home health.Dr. Templeman also has expertise in end of life care and advance care planning. He is passionate about about elder rights and autonomy for medical decision making. He is also interested in geriatrics across minority cultures and in the LGBTQ communities. Dr. Templeman completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at University of Hawaii at Manao, and a fellowship in HIV medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC. He did a residency in family medicine at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Templeman earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and completed a masters degree in public health from UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He is board certified in family medicine and geriatric medicine. He is also credentialed through the American Academy of HIV Medicine as physician specialist (AAHIVS). He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, American Medical Directors Association (AMDA) The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, and the American Academy of Home Health Medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Templemans hobbies and interests include music, cooking, reading, social justice and politics. He also stays active through running, hiking and dancing.
