Established in 1989, Center for Children is a private, nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive mental health services to children and their families. The center s services include crisis intervention, individual, group, play and family therapies, assessment and evaluation of children and psychological and psychiatric testing. It also offers mentoring, teen family support and education, prevention programs, information and referral, and community education services. The center s services include advocacy in the legal system, case coordination with other agencies, providing on-call victim services, supervised visitation for noncustodial parents, and case consultation with educators, physicians and other professionals. It additionally offers a mental health clinic, court appointed special advocates, crime victim services and divorce education, and serves schools, pediatricians, social services providers, county health departments and various youth organizations. Center for Children is located in La Plata, Md.
