Dr. Bono convinced my then 76-yr old mother to have her second spinal fusion (first was in her twenties due to accident) after already having had open heart surgery and strokes. He NEVER visited her in the hospital following this major invasive procedure or while in rehab. The nurses were obviously not surprised by his neglect and narcissistic attitude. Instead he sent PA's who couldn't even answer basic questions about the surgery (his 6th procedure by 10 am) since they weren't even there. She finally had to go to his office for a half-hour follow-up. He said her pain would subside after 2 months and she'd be better in 6. It was then we found out she not only has titanium plates and screws but a mesh cage around 5 lumbar vertebrae. Over the next year she has gotten progressively worse and is in constant pain, can barely walk with a cane, can't sleep, gets severe leg cramps and probably has a permanently pinched nerve. She regrets having ever had the procedure and has even looked into having it undone. Dr. Bono is an inhumane, greedy surgeon. Other doctors whom my Mom consulted with mentioned they were glad he moved out of area to Tampa. I would never trust him nor recommend him to anyone besides a malpractice attorney.
