D&R Market started as a wholesale produce trucking company located in Logansport, IN. Paul Shoemaker, who started the company, would haul produce across the United States, from Michigan to Florida and back again. While he was operating this business, Paul started a small summer produce stand in Logansport and handed it over to his sons Dave and Ron. Under their management, the small stand continued to grow. Eventually, Dave made his way to the south side of Lafayette and opened the area's first D&R Market. Dave moved that D&R Market to its current Creasy Lane location in 1980, and began keeping it open yearlong. In 1982, I was a young college student at Purdue University looking for a job. D&R Market hired me for the generous rate of $3.35 an hour! I started off as a cleaning boy, but patiently worked my way up the staff to Meat Supervisor for the D&R Markets in both Lafayette and Logansport. In December of 2006, D&R purchased the equipment and leased the old rental car facility next to the Lafayette D&R Market on Creasy Lane. D&R was able to expand and further realize its goal: to provide Lafayette with a specialty destination shop centered around the finest meat available.
