Walter is simply the best mechanic if you have a German car and live in the Lafayette, Ind., area. (He works on Japanese models, too.) His son, Andy, is pretty good as well. I brought my Jetta TDI there for service several times, and they both were always fair with me. After I became a regular, Walter even let me use one of the numerous old Mercedes sitting around while he worked on my car. And when I finally decided to get a new car, he bought my TDI from me. I can't say enough good things about Walter and Andy. The only downside to his shop is that it's not exactly conveniently located, and the nearest bus stop is a mile or so walk away. So get a friend to drop you off. You won't regret it. Walter is fair, honest and really knows his stuff. It's the best place in town to bring a foreign car. The only reason I haven't been back for a while is that the new car I bought in 2006 has never needed any service other than regular maintenance (e.g., oil changes, tire rotations).

I just had my Volvo repaired there last week and Walter is great! It is so nice to deal with honest, hard working people who not only know their business, but also love it. I would highly recommend them to anyone with an import; it would be in great hands. Keep up the good work!

Walter is the greatest mechanic I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He's fair, courteous, and far more knowledgeable than any mechanic I've ever been to. I don't take my car anywhere else. If you've got an older VW, this is the only man you should take your car to. Him and his team are by far top tier. Very very pleased by each experience I've had with him working on my car as well as offering advice. He's truly a great guy and a great, nice, awesome mechanic.

I haven't lived in Lafayette for 30 years I remembered hearing good things about Walter's shop back in the day. While on a recent (2012) Thanksgiving trip to Lafayette My BMW 325i needed a water pump replaced. Not only did Walter get me in, he was friendly and helpful. Walter gave me an estimate and did not exceed the amount he stated. Parts installed were excellent OEM parts. My car was finished on time, (it was also a Saturday) very important since I needed to return to Wisconsin for work. Can't say enough!!! Highly recommended!

sweet place!!! had tons of fun looking around at some classic cars, they sold me a car that they redid the engine too and it runs great. good customer service, my only problem was the amount of time that it took them to finish it up. i had to call them nearly every day to check in and see how far they were.
they also sell spare parts to nearly every foreign car!!!!! when my brother and i were buying my car, he was looking around finding some things that he was considering for his vw beetle.
WARNING: not the place to go for an American made car (thus the "auto imports" name).

This place is awesome! Walter the owner is very honest and knowledgable He is German trained and knows German cars like no one else! Highly recommend!

If you have an import this is the place, they were very friendly took care of me right away, I was taken back to work , they called me told me what was wrong and the estimate was right on, I'll recommend this place.

He is very honest man, he will do his best to fix your car and much much cheaper than anyone else in town, I will recommend him highly. He took good care of my VW.

Walter has kept two cars of mine running for a total of about 600,000 miles. He treats the ladies especially well.

Walter and his family run the best VW/Porsche shop we have ever encountered. He takes the best of care of my wife's 1972 911T and has always kept our VWs operating with top, safe performance. They also keep our daughter's SAAB running trouble free. They are absolutely the best!

He kept my Beetle going strong when I was a broke student and later a broke photographer for the Journal and Courier... the kind of shop I would die for where I live now.

If you have a German car, this is the place to go. Walter is very skilled and thorough. If there is a tricky problem others can't figure out, he will. He may work a little slow on the harder issues, but it's only because he gets to the root of the problem and does not skimp on anything. If it's something simple, he will make the time to fix it on the spot. What more do you need from a mechanic?

took my car in for a routine car repair (CV Joint). They replaced the parts I requested in a timely manner. The parts they used were double the price as found online. I picked the car up and 300 miles later the parts they had replaced failed. I took the car back and they warrantied the affected parts but claimed "since the car is lowered we cannot do this again" and that since the car was modified this caused the failure, which is a blatant lie. I pick the car up and again, 300 miles later the car broke down, this time on a road trip where i was stranded for 3 hours waiting for a tow truck. Since I was this time unable to have the work warrantied I fixed it myself using the "bargain" internet parts and what do you know the issue was solved. Inspection of the parts used shows them to be internally different than the parts I purchased which I am still using today. After all this I am out over $700 that I paid to Walters and another $200 for the parts that I had to buy to replace their po
