Eastside Elementary School, located in Lake City, Fla., and founded in 1959, is affiliated to the Columbia County Schools District. The school offers various educational and cocurricular programs to more than 500 students in grades prekindergarten through five. It has received an A under the governor's A+ plan and follows curriculum based on the Sunshine State Standards. Eastside Elementary School is a Reading First School, where all students participate in a 90-minute reading session. Differentiated instruction is provided to those students needing additional help through small-group instruction and individual tutors. The school also has a parent-teacher association that focuses on increasing awareness and participation in curriculum and policy development, enhancing communication between home and school and supporting all curriculum areas.
