My sister and I visited the Spencers location mentioned above on 3.13.10 during a trip to Lake Jackson mall. I was watched like a hawk by the girls behind the counter, either because I look like a hardened criminal or because they had nothing better to do. They commented on my bracelets which were similar to ones carried in the store and nearly accused me of stealing them outright. I told them that I'd purchased mine at a different Spencers, located in Austin, Tx but my story didn't impress them. I got angry and left the store to go find my sister (who had left minutes before) and leave the mall. My sister also became angry but she wanted to go back and speak to a manager. There was no need. We were met at the mall exit by mall security and asked to return to the store. We were also met by two off duty police officers (who by the way failed to mention that they were off duty and forgot to wear something other than sherriff's dept uniforms) en route. We were openly gawked at by anyone who happened to be shopping in the mall, which on a Saturday night, was quite a few people and already assumed to be theives. During the entire walk back to the store, the "cops" refused to tell me what the problem was ( I suspected I knew but I wanted someone to SAY it) and already treated me like I was already guilty of something. When my sister pointed out that fact to them all, one of the "cops" literally threated to put her in handcuffs if she "gave him any more lip". I kid you not. When we got back inside the store the same "cop" told me to empty my pockets and that by law he could force me to so (which by the way he can not, believe me I looked it up) but I, having nothing to hide, did so without arguement. When no stolen Spencers merchandise was found, we were allowed to leave (unescorted thank god) without so much as an apology. My family has shopped at the Lake Jackson mall for at least ten years and most of the merchants know us by face if not by name but none of that matters now. We will never go back. If you shop at Spencers, the same thing could easily happen to you. Especially if you wear anything you bought. Especially if Lisa and Amber, the amateur detective cashiers are behind the counter. Don't bother.
