Recently we dined at Norby's Restaurant and were very disappointed for the following reasons:

There was a musty odor and the servers were dressed slovenly.

The interior looks shabby (it's a dive).

The ladies rest room was littered with toilet paper and water and I could not use the facilities.

The cashier was very abrupt, said sign the top copy, did not inquire how everything was and just walked away.

However, to be fair, the service and food were very good.

Maybe Norby's should take an interest in their establishment and we may visit again.

My husband and I frequent...

My husband and I frequent Norby's several times during our snow-bird stay in FL. We have never been disappointed. Highly recommend the brie apetizer. Sangria is good. Have never been disappointed in a steak and we are particular about how they are cooked. They have always pleased us! Most of the time I take a box home as I cannot eat it all! Not an elegant atomosphere but quaint.

Not A Good First Impression

After reviewing the website for this establishment and having the opportunity to be in Lake Wales, decided to give them a try on Saturday. Now as we all know, you never have a chance to make another first impression, and unfortunately, on this night, they fell short of the mark of a me considering them a great dining experience. A wait of 45 minutes is sometimes not uncommon on a weekend night, because your anticipate stellar service and an existing reputation of quality food awaits you given the price point of the menu.

After our wait outside, we were offer either inside or outside seating. We chose outside and were escorted to a courtyard surrounding by foliage that has not be cleaned or trimmed of the winter damage along with the falling of tree pollen and leaves from the overhanging trees.

Because of the Saturday night volume of business, it was apparent the wait staff was pressed to keep up with the volume as the amount of time for us to place our order and receive our beverages, which the waitress brought us doubles, so that we would not run out before she could get back to us.

We selected from the menu, New York strips and requested they be prepared with butter and extra garlic flavoring on the grill. Apparantly, this was an uncommon request, as after waiting almost 40 minutes for our steaks to arrive, we received them, one cold, one warm with raw garlic and melted butter in a plastic cup on the plate. Guess our request confused the cook staff.

Because of the length of time already invested in this experience, we ate our steaks, not overly impressed with their quality or preparation, made comment about this to our waitress upon her return, and disappointedly waited in line to pay our tab. What was interesting, was that while waiting in line, two different groups ahead of me, when asked by the cashier about their dining experience, also expressed disappointment and received gift certificates for another visit. When I responded to the cashier's inquiry about my experience, and informed her this was my first visit, only received another apology as she continue to charge me the 50 bucks for the meal. Guess she was out of certificates or my situation did not warrant any concession even though my waitress was standing there and acknowledged my complaint and said she informed the owner.

Now, my guest may return another time to give them an opportunity to redeem themselves as he resides locally. And next time the experience may be different. But I can tell you, when I again visit Lake Wales and it comes to dining out, this establishment does not stand out as a choice of being an exceptional dining value in relation to the cost of the visit.

Patio dining or in

Not a classy looking restaurant but the steaks are good. You can eat inside or on the patio. Fun place . . .
