The staff is very accommodating to the patients and help families better understand critical issues. The nursing staff is superb!

I'm disgusted with the service in this hospital. The nurses and assistants are practically incompetent. I'd give it ZERO stars if I could

0 stars not an option - - My mother was injured BY THEM - JFK during an ER visit which resulted in a 6 week hospital stay with 2 surgeries. The sheer wrong doing, disregard for proper care, and on top of that lying and misleading us through the entire ordeal. They had no regard for my mother's life. When I brought Mom home hospice care 14 weeks later, I was so angry and hurt I called Gina Melby the CEO at JFK Medical Center to let her know what this whole injury they caused lead Mom to. She said "We got your Mom the surgery 'she needed'. What can I do for you now Ms. Bonomolo?" I said I wanted to know how she could sleep at night... In a conference with her, the CEO a week after Mom's injury she said "It sounds like your mother has has a horrific experience here at our hospital and we will whatever we can to help her". She agreed with me that Mom would heal better at home and they would bring in all services around the clock to help her recover at home - skilled nurse, aid, physical and occupational therapists, transportation to doctors, hospital bed. In our 4th discharge meeting where everything was to be set up by them in order for Mom to go home they had no services in place, rather the DOR and Risk Management hit us up with a piece of paper breaking down cost for anticipated services, wanted a release signed and said "take it or deal with Humana's limited services".... the breakdown was for a nominal amount that wouldn't even cover and aid at $16 for 2 weeks, never mind a nurse, wound care, PT, OT, continued pain management, transport to doctors, etc. As if that didn't display their disregard for my mother's well being. End result... continued problems to the point of no return - hospital acquired pneumonias, pain beyond, bedbound for weeks, a thoracic spinal compression fracture from a fall onto the commode in the hospital which went undiagnosed and misdiagnosed as muscular pain, MRSA in the lungs urinary tract and skin, bedridden on a catheter until we hospiced her in July. My Mom suffered terribly, needlessly, senselessly. She passed 10 months almost to the day from the injury that JFK created. There was no remorse, no responsibility nor accountability from this hospital. Just disgusting. Gina Melby said to me in our last conversation "Your mother's health was compromised when she entered our hospital". What a ridiculous statement! My mother went to the ER by ambulance to rule out a pulmonary embolism from a blood clot I was treating her for with her physician. The clot never moved. An embolism did not exist. She should have left their hospital that very same day. Rather, it was the beginning of the end of her life. No compassion, no responsibility nor accountability. Just cold and inhumane you are Gina Melby!
