George Gaines repaired wrist watches during the Depression. He kept the repair jobs in an old cigar box that he carried with him when he rode his bicycle home at night. Pop was the front man. He never met anyone that he couldn't talk to and be friends with. In future years as the business grew Mr. Gaines would walk the streets downtown seeing how all the other shopkeepers and customers were doing, and of course visiting at the same time. The "mayor" of Tennessee Avenue loved people almost as much as he loved fixing things. Pop passed away on Valentine's Day 1986. John Richard (Dick) Gaines was the true genius and brains behind running the business from a technical point of view Sadly, Doris Gaines and Dick Gaines passed away in late 2012 and early 2014 respectively. The business continues to be family run. Suzanne Gaines manages George L. Gaines with a flair for the tradition begun years ago by George and Doris. The superb staff is like family and the level of service the community has grown to expect continues. Call, email or do it the old-fashion way - stop in and visit. Gaines still offers the personal service and attention to detail we have since 1935.
