Dr. Keisha Ellis is a board-certified internal medicine physician specializing in endocrinology — with particular emphasis on the management of obesity, diabetes, and thyroid disease. As a clinical professor for GME (graduate medical education), she also serves as the Associate Program Director of the LRH Internal Medicine Residency program. Dr. Ellis earned her MD in medicine at Ross University. She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut and her fellowship in endocrinology at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Ellis’s research has been extensively published and presented nationwide. She sees patients at the Parkview Family Medicine office. Describe your clinical specialties. I am a general endocrinologist who is passionate about providing the most up-to-date patient care with particular emphasis in the management of obesity, diabetes, and thyroid disease. I am committed to advancing science in these areas and have presented my research locally and nationally. What would you like people to know about you as a physician? I aim to always hear my patients and for them to feel heard in addition to them having an outstanding patient experience because they are always kept in the loop on their health information. How does your work improve lives? Endocrinology is a still one of the few specialties that relies on a strong foundation in biochemistry, physics, and physiology—all of which is directly incorporated into clinical practice on a daily basis. Thus, it helps with having a broader understanding of the disease processes and optimizes patient care. What is your patient care philosophy? I aim to optimize mental and physical health in a way that is both tangible and realistic for the patient and their family. The goal is to develop a care plan with each encounter that empowers the patient and their family to be involved in a shared decision-making process—while also empowering them to make thoughtful decisions about their own health. My ultimate goals are to serve each patient well throughout their disease process and to enhance communications with their healthcare team. What do you enjoy most about working with patients? I enjoy the opportunity to continue to learn and grow as a clinician with each patient encounter. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Outside of medicine, I find joy by sketching, painting, crocheting, playing golf, and reading pop-up books with my young daughter. What else would you like to share with your patients and colleagues? I love to teach, and I have the gift of simplifying complex concepts. This allows for a better patient experience and also helps me in providing education to my colleagues—resulting in elevated patient care. I am constantly evolving as a person, a fine-skilled clinician, and a strong leader.
