About Hypnosis When people think of hypnosis, they often think of stage hypnosis because that may be their only frame of reference. Stage hypnosis is very popular for entertainment purposes and is obviously very different than hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. A stage hypnotist is very skilled at selecting the perfect people for demonstration, highly suggestible people. The stage hypnotist and the hypnotherapist use the same principles to put a person into a state of hypnosis, but the difference is that stage hypnosis is purely for entertainment to show the extraordinary power of the mind, and hypnotherapy is used to harness that power to make positive behavioral changes. Stage hypnosis is not used to change behavior patterns, it is used to create an immediate response or reaction using the most powerful part of your mind. Using hypnosis to change a behavior pattern can take more time depending on what the pattern is and why the person has developed it. Hypnosis is defined as a highly suggestible state. Suggestibility is simply the way one learns and takes in information. Hypnosis is a natural state which we all drift in and out of several times a day, and is your mind’s way of escaping and taking a break, but it is also a time when accelerated learning can happen. Hypnotherapy is a way to use your mind to heal physical and psychological issues and illnesses. It can be used in conjunction with medical or mental health treatment. Please keep in mind that individual results vary and results are not guaranteed. Hypnosis is Considered a Natural Remedy What Is Hypnotism And How Does It Work? Hypnotherapy is considered a natural remedy for many issues. Hypnosis usually involves the person experiencing a sense of deep relaxation with their attention narrowed and focused on suggestions given by the therapist, which are related to the clients’ condition whether that is a behavior they would like to eliminate, or a quality they would like to improve on. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of sleep. The brainwave activity experienced during hypnosis is “Alpha”. The alpha state is described as awake, but relaxed. We all experience this state when we first wake up in the morning and just before falling asleep and it happens several times a day naturally. When a person closes their eyes, their brain automatically starts producing more alpha waves. There is typically a reduction in stress and physical pain when one enters this state. The next level before going to sleep, is the brain wave state called “Theta”. Theta is considered very relaxed and a highly receptive mental state which is optimal for hypnotic suggestion. Still, in this state a person is not asleep. It is generally accepted that all hypnosis is ultimately self-hypnosis. A hypnotherapist merely helps to facilitate your experience. Hypnotherapy is not about being made to do things, in fact it is the opposite, it is about empowerment. The suggestions given by the therapist helps people make positive changes within themselves because it is a change that they really want. Hypnosis is not effective once a person reaches the “Delta” state of brain wave function. At that point a person is asleep and in an unconscious state and the subconscious will not record information or suggestion. The Hypnosis Alpha or Theta State When a person enters the alpha or theta state, the therapist is able to suggest ideas, concepts and even help a person to visualize their goals. At that time, the subconscious mind is allowing seeds to be planted to then create the changes in reality. The changes occur in subtle ways but it is basically a way for your subconscious mind and your intellect to come into alignment. What is happ
