We rented a large storage unit to hold our daughter's apartment contents for the summer. We accessed the unit today to move her out only to find that the ceiling fencing had been pried back, her belongings vandalized and items stolen. We notified the Lakewood PD and began an insurance claim. The Lakewood PD officer stated that they come to this Public Storage location frequently since the buildings are not locked at night (although a gate code is required to enter the property). Most importantly, he said that the quality of fencing on top of each storage unit is flimsy and very easily pried back. The fencing is to allow the storage unit to be climate controlled but is little more than chicken wire. Someone bent it back to easily slip into our unit and 8 others surrounding ours. The Lakewood CSI unit took photos and fingerprinted the crime scene but it won't do us much good. We moved out today and I wish we'd never rented there. Hope this helps with your decision!
